RENO- Amy Parrish and Chantella Perera each scored 20 points apiece and Fresno State shot 49.1-percent overall during a 75-67 road victory over Nevada on Saturday night at the Lawlor Events Center. The Bulldogs (12-6, 4-5 WAC) had watched their field-goal percentage decrease in each of the last five games, bottoming out to a 28.9-percent clip in a loss to Tulsa last weekend. Against the Wolf Pack (5-14, 1-8 WAC), Fresno State made 28-57 from the field and shot almost 60-percent in the opening period.
Jasmine Plummer also scored in double-figures for the Bulldogs, adding 16. Fresno State held a commanding 40-29 edge on the boards and nailed four of nine three-point attempts. The game might have been a rout if not for the Bulldogs committing a season-high 28 turnovers while the Wolf Pack totaled 24.
Nevada placed four players in double-figures, led by Amber Young's 15 points.
The game stayed close early on with neither team able to build any momentum and pull away. Nevada's largest lead of the contest came at the 4:51 mark of the opening period, as two free throws from Young made it 24-21. After a jumper from Jessica Presslar gave the Wolf Pack a 26-25 edge, Fresno State took control. The Bulldogs closed out the half on a 13-3 scoring run, with six of those points coming from easy lay-ups in transition.
Leading 38-29 at intermission, Fresno State struggled out of the gate and allowed Nevada to creep to within four at 43-39 following a jumper from Traci Graham.
However, the Bulldogs regained control and jumped out to their largest lead when a successful three-point play from Parrish made it 64-51 with 7:42 remaining.
Three second-half three pointers from Perera, along with some steady inside play from Plummer, kept Nevada from making any attempt of a comeback.
Fresno State, 8-1 on the road this year, travels to Louisiana Tech (Thur., Feb. 3) and SMU (Sat., Feb. 5) next weekend. Both games came be heard live on ESPN Radio 1430 AM.
