Bulldogs Too Much For Broncos, Earn 71-50 Win

FRESNO, Calif.- Chantella Perera was one of three Fresno State players to score in double-figures, pouring in a game-high 19 points in a 71-50 victory over Boise State on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.Fresno State (15-7, 7-6 WAC) has now won three straight and four of five overall, while Boise State (8-14, 3-10 WAC) falls to 1-10 on the road this year.
After scoring in double-figures 12 straight games, Amy Parrish was held to just seven points and six boards after getting into foul trouble. That would not be a problem for the Bulldogs, who also received 13 points from Aritta Lane and Tierre Wilson (career-high). Wilson and Jasmine Plummer combined for 14 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
Boise State was led by Michelle Hessing's 14 points, while Tasha Harris added 12.
Fresno State shot 44.9-percent, made 7-13 from beyond the arc and outrebounded Boise State 40-25. The Bulldogs were 20-31 from the foul line compared to the Broncos' 12-15 mark.
Each team committed 26 turnovers in the contest, while Fresno State registered 15 steals.
Both Fresno State and Boise State got off to slow starts, as only four field goals were made in the first 10 minutes of the game. With the game tied 7-7, Fresno State went on a 13-3 scoring run to record its first double-digit lead at 20-10 with 5:58 on the clock.
The Bulldog's largest lead of the first half came at the 2:40 mark, when a put-back from Lane made it 29-14. However, Boise State closed out the half on a 10-3 run to inch closer at 32-24.
Boise State received back-to-back lay-ups from Tasha Harris to begin the second half, but Perera responded with two quick three-pointers. Her second triple put the `Dogs up by 10 and Fresno State would lead by double-digits the rest of the way.
An inside bucket from Lane gave Fresno State a 20-point cushion at 57-37 and the Bulldogs led by as many as 22 on the night.
Angelica Lopez came off the bench for the final three minutes, drawing loud cheers from the 4,245 in attendance. Lopez, who has now appeared in three games this year and eight in her two-year career, pulled down a rebound but was 0-2 from the foul line.
Fresno State, 9-2 away from the Save Mart Center, travels to Tulsa (Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. PST) and Rice (Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. PST) next week.
