Fresno State Finishes Wrestling At NCAA Championships

Fresno, Calif. - The last three Fresno State wrestlers were eliminated from the 2005 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, finishing the 2005 season, head coach Dennis DeLiddo's last. Jim Medeiros had the best record of the Bulldog wrestlers, going 2-2 in the tournament before being eliminated in the consolation bracket. Chris Gifford and Marcio Botelho both ended the tournament 1-2.
All three wrestlers started the day in the consolation bracket. Gifford lost 13-2 to Bryce Hasserman of Bloomsburg in the 174-pound bracket in his first match on Saturday, and Botelho lost to No. 3 Chris Streckowitz of Hofstra. Medeiros won a 4-3 decision over Wisconsin's Tyler Turner before losing a 4-1 decision to No. 7 Matt Lebe, ending his run two rounds shy of placement.
Fresno State had two other wrestlers compete in the tournament. Heavyweight Shane Seibert and Clint Walbeck were both eliminated on Thursday.
