Bulldog Update
Fresno State resumes outdoor competition this weekend with an appearance at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, a non-scoring meet held in Berkeley, Calif. California is the host school for the event, which will feature competitors from Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Chico State, Idaho, Iowa State, Ohio State, Purdue, UC Irvine, Washington State and Wyoming. The two-day invitational begins Friday morning and concludes Saturday.
MEN'S TEAM
Individual Achievements Highlight Fresno Relays
Several strong individual performances were on display during the intercollegiate meet at the 77th annual Bob Mathias Fresno Relays last week. Fresno State recorded 16 first-place finishes in the event, with four of those coming on the men's side. Ryan Moore tallied an NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a 52.32 run in the 400-meter hurdles. Russell Weaver tied for first in the pole vault, only to better that mark later in the day. In the elite division pole vault competition, he established a personal-best of 17-4.5 (5.30m) to take third and qualify for NCAA Regionals. Alex Jones won the long jump at 23-4 (7.11m) while the 4x400-meter relay squad also took first.
`Dogs Dominate CS Bakersfield/Mt. San Antonio College
Despite wet and windy conditions at a rain-soaked Warmerdam Field on Mar. 23, Fresno State totaled 165.5 points to claim a tri-meet victory over Mt. San Antonio College (117.5) and Cal State Bakersfield (56). Fresno State recorded nine-first place finishes, led by six in running events alone which were timed by hand. Chris Berrian earned top honors in both the 100-meters (10.3) and 200-meters (21.0) while the Bulldog's 4x100 relay team took first with a 41.00. Alex Jones notched a personal-best 23-8.25 (7.22m) to win the long jump and Dave Endler tallied an NCAA Regional mark in the discus with a 173-3 (52.82m).
Cal Poly Invitational Recap
Fresno State was led by two event-winners (Sean Marzolf in the 800-meter run and Kyle Montgomery in the triple jump) in the non-scoring team event at San Luis Obispo back on Mar. 19. Marzolf ran a season-high 1:54.64 while Montgomery recorded a leap of 46-11.75 (14.32m). The Bulldogs were first overall in team-scoring at the event, notching 172.5 points to lead the field.
Chico State Wildcat Relays Recap
Fresno State participated at the Chico State Wildcat Relays back on Mar. 12 and the Bulldogs produced some impressive results. First-place finishers included the following: Chris Berrian (10.67 in the 100-meters), Ian Mason (9:40.23 in the 3000-meter steeplechase) and Dave Endler (159-5 in the discus). Three Bulldog relay teams crossed the line first: 4x200, 4x400 and 800 sprint medley.

Lopez, Christianson Shine At Fresno Relays
Of Fresno State's 16 first-place finishes on the afternoon, 12 of those came on the women's side. Christina Lopez led the field in the 100-and 200-meter runs and Katie Christianson was also a multiple-event winner (100-meter hurdles and long jump). Mallory Webb threw a 144-0 (43.90m) to win the javelin. Renee Winston (400-meters), Zinzi Evans (800-meters) and Regina Ollison (triple jump) all recorded season-bests on their way to first-place finishes.

Despite wet and windy conditions at a rain-soaked Warmerdam Field on Mar. 23, Fresno State cruised past Mt. San Antonio College and Cal State Bakersfield in a tri-meet. The Bulldogs registered 160.5 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Mt. SAC at 108.5 and CSUB with 77. Zinzi Evans (800-meters), Valeria Delgado (1500-meters) and Andrea Buckner (5000-meters) all captured running titles (events timed by hand). Lexine Lesser matched her season-high with a victory in the pole vault at 12-6 (3.81m) while Katie Christianson recorded a personal-best and matched the NCAA Regional qualifying standard in the long jump at 19-6.25 (5.95m). Mallory Webb bettered her NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a toss of 160-4 (48.88m) in the javelin.
Newcomers Leading The Field
Fresno State's depth chart is filled with several newcomers who own the top mark in their respective event. Freshmen Christina Lopez is the top `Dog in the 100-and 200-meter runs, while fellow rookies Renee Winston (400-meters), Erica McCoy (400-meter hurdles) and Lauren Archie (high jump) are in the same category. Junior transfer Regina Ollison is leading the triple jump.
Bulldogs Take Third At 2005 WAC Indoor Championship
Fresno State placed third overall at the 2005 WAC Indoor Championships last month, tallying 76 points to finish behind champion Louisiana Tech and runner-up Rice. Katie Christianson earned silver medalist honors in the pentathlon with 3,713 points. Aspen Marshall took second in the weight throw at 56-8.75 (17.29m) while Crystal Phillips advanced to the finals of the 60- and 200-meter races, where she ran 7.72 (seventh) and 24.84 (sixth), respectively. Annie Malaythong reached 12-2.50 (3.72) for a runner-up finish in the pole vault.
Personal-Bests At Conference Meet
Three Bulldogs notched personal-best marks in the 800-meter run at the WAC Indoor Championships, as Zinzi Evans (2:15.43), Katie Christianson (2:26.92) and Tonisha Henson (2:43.38) all topped their previous career-high totals. Other personal-best setters included: Andrea Buckner (3,000-meters), Christianson (long jump) and Annie Malaythong and Samantha Modeste (pole vault).
