Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State Wrestling has announced their schedule for the 2005-06 season, which includes seven home dates, along with tough road trips through Oklahoma to face Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and Oregon to face Portland State, Oregon State and Oregon.
The Bulldogs kick off the 2005-06 season with two tournaments, the Fullerton Open and the Las Vegas Tournament before making their home debut with a dual against Western Region rival Wyoming. Following that match the team will head to Reno for the Cliff Keen Tournament of Champions.
Following the tournaments, the Bulldogs will host two three-way duals, hosting Boise State and Menlo College before heading to the Save Mart Center for a three-way against San Francisco State and Illinois on Friday, Jan. 13. The Illini finished sixth last year in the NCAA tournament, and will provide a strong early season challenge for the Bulldogs.
The team then begins a heavy road trip, facing six out of their next seven opponents on the road, including two top 5 opponents in Oklahoma and defending champions Okalahoma State. The team then finishes the regular season by hosting Cal Poly, heading to Tempe to face Arizona State, and closing out the season at home against Stanford and UC Davis at the end of February.
For the postseason, the squad travels to Laramie, Wyo., for the Western Region Championships and the NCAA Tournament, which will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this season.
"We have a very competitive schedule this season," said head coach Shawn Charles. "We face some very tough competition both at home in Illinois and on the road against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. I believe that competition and our extended road schedule should make us a better team, particularly towards the end of the season. The experience of wrestling teams of that caliber and spending so much time together will only make this team stronger."
