THE WEEK AHEAD
Fresno State continues a busy month with a full schedule again this week. The Bulldogs start out the week with a home dual against Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday. The Bulldogs lost to the Titans on the road in an early-season dual last season, and will look to even the score at the North Gym at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Following that match, the team takes a trip to the Pacific Northwest for three matches over the weekend. The Bulldogs will take on Oregon on Friday, followed by two matches on Saturday, when the team will face Oregon State in the afternoon followed with an evening match against Portland State. Fresno State faced all three teams in Fresno last season, with the Bulldogs dropping a tight 21-19 dual to Oregon, and winning both of their matches against Portland State and Oregon State. The Oregon dual will feature a homecoming of sorts for junior Cody Parker, a transfer from the Ducks that was a two year starter in Eugene.
OKLAHOMA OKAY
Fresno State finished a tough week with three losses, fighting through injuries. The Bulldogs were forced to forfeit three weights over the week, in three duals against Cal State Bakersfield, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs faced all three teams on the road, and were fighting an uphill battle in each match after giving up 18 points to start each match. The Bulldogs wrestled fairly evenly with the Roadrunners, losing 36-10, but in the road trip to Oklahoma, facing two top 10 squads only Greg Gifford was able to come away with a win, a 9-6 decision at Oklahoma State.
SAVE MART CENTER STAGE
Fresno State's annual trip to the Save Mart Center ended with mixed results in front of a crowd of 4,452 fans. The Bulldogs took a 26-15 win over San Francisco State despite giving up two weight classes behind major decisions from Garrett Spooner and Cody Parker, along with a forfeit from the Gators at 197 pounds. In the featured match, No. 4 Illinois proved to be too strong for the Bulldogs in a 37-3 win. Sean Carlson had a tough loss to open the night, losing a 5-4 decision on riding time after making an escape to tie the match with seconds remaining. The two forfeits because of injury again hurt the Bulldogs, who pulled out a win from Cody Parker, who ended the week a perfect 4-0 after a 3-2 decision over Matt Weight that was decided after Parker recorded a second period reversal.
