Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State's baseball program joins some of the top programs in the nation after being listed in Collegiate Baseball's preseason top 40 poll. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 40th, capitalizing on three straight top 20 recruiting classes as ranked by the same publication. The Collegiate Baseball Fabulous 40 preseason poll is traditionally the first of the year to be released.
The Bulldogs will have every opportunity to increase their standings in the poll. Fresno State opens the season with a road series against Cal Poly, who finished just behind the Bulldogs in the voting, and will play at least three other teams that were ranked in the poll.
All three of those teams will face the Bulldogs at Beiden Field in 2006, beginning with No. 13 Pepperdine from Feb. 10-12. The Bulldogs will also face No. 25 Stanford in February, and will have a mid-week series with No. 35 San Francisco in March.
In addition to Cal Poly, the Bulldogs will also see one other opponent that received votes, hitting the road to play the UCLA Bruins. No other WAC school was represented in the poll.
The Bulldogs begin their season on January 21, when the team will host the annual alumni game, as some of the best of the past ballplayers in Fresno State history take on the 2006 squad in a scrimmage. The home opener for the Bulldogs is on Feb. 10, when the Bulldogs face Pepperdine.
