EUGENE, Ore. - The 63rd-ranked Fresno State men's tennis team fell narrowly in defeat, 4-3 to No. 10 Washington, Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Junior Jakub Cech, however, defeated a top-20 player for the second consecutive week when he defeated No. 19 Alex Slovic in straight sets.
Washington took an early 1-0 lead when it won the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches.
But Fresno State made things interesting in singles, winning three of the six matches. Cech won at No. 1 singles, while freshmen Rudolf Siwy and Jordi Ballester won at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
"We played very well against Washington today," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "They're a very good team, we kept it close, but we did fall a little bit short. Jakub was solid again with a big win against Slovic."
The Bulldogs will remain in Eugene to face the Oregon Ducks, Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
