FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive dual match Friday evening, beating the Princeton Tigers 5-2. The Bulldogs improve to 4-0 on the year, while the Tigers fall to 1-5.
Senior Sergiu Modoc won the clinching singles match for the second consecutive time and for the third time in four dual matches. Junior Jakub Cech made quick work of Princeton's Sratha Saengsuwarn in straight sets to pick up his third victory of the dual season. Freshman Jordi Ballester was down match point, rallied to win the second set 7-5 and then went on to win the match in the master tiebreaker.
"This was a solid win for us tonight," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "This is definitely a step up from our last match and it was the best we've played all year in doubles. Jordi was down match point, but he showed a lot of guts to come back and win that match. But we still can't be satisfied."
Fresno State swept the Tigers in doubles play. Seniors Sam Gibbs and Sergiu Modoc improved to 4-0 on the year, while Ballester and sophomore Sam Tadevosian also remained perfect as a tandem.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 12:30 p.m. when the Santa Clara Broncos visit the Wathen Tennis Center.
