Bulldogs Tame Tigers, Win 6-1

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team dominated visiting Pacific 6-1 Thursday at the Wathen Tennis Center. On a clear afternoon, the Bulldogs honored their seniors, Sam Gibbs and Sergiu Modoc, in their final home match of the season. Gibbs and Modoc treated the fans to a solid 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, improving their dual match doubles record to 10-4. Fresno State improved to 12-5 on the season, while Pacific fell to 11-6.
"It was really enjoyable to watch Sam and Sergiu compete today in their final home match," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "The team really made it a great experience for our seniors, sending them out with a win."
The Bulldogs remained perfect at home this season with the victory. The team never lost a doubles point at home as well. Now the Bulldogs take their game on the road, finishing with three regular season matches at Pepperdine, Stanford and Santa Barbara before the WAC Championships begin on April 20.
Junior Jakub Cech won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, defeating Arnar Sigurdsson 6-3, 6-4. Cech improved his singles dual match record to 13-2.
Freshman Rudolf Siwy battled from one set down to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Charles Irie, sophomore Sam Tadevosian and freshman Jordi Ballester also won in singles in straight sets.
Cech and Tadevosian were perfect in their doubles match, shutting out Kelly and Starke 8-0.
The Bulldogs return to action when they play at No. 2 Pepperdine on Sunday, April 9, at 1 p.m.
