FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight night the Fresno State women's basketball team broke the 100 point barrier as they beat cross-town NAIA foe Fresno Pacific 104-73 in its final exhibition game on Tuesday evening at the Save Mart Center.
"It was a good game for us," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "Fresno Pacific played real hard and made it real game like. It was good for us to be able to go through that again."
Tierre Wilson led five Bulldogs in double figures with 21 points on six-of-nine shooting from the field. She also had five assists, five rebounds, four steals and one block. Hayley Munro and Marnique Arnold each had 11 points while Erica Henry and Taja Edwards had 10.
As a team Fresno State shot 56 percent from the floor and out rebounded the Sunbirds 49-24. Bailey Amundsen had a team-best 10 rebounds while Wilson and LaToya Brown each had five assists.
"As a team we had a chance to work on our system in how we wanted to play offensively and defensively," Wiggins said. "I feel like we shared the ball really well and blocked out at a decent level. I was happy with how we ran the floor."
Fresno State clung to a 21-19 lead with 10:22 left in the first half. The Bulldogs then went on a 12-0 run to take a 33-19 lead with 5:55 left until halftime following a lay up by Wilson and a free throw by Emma Andrews. The Bulldogs led 46-26 at the break.
After the opening minute of the second half, Fresno State maintained a lead of 20 points or more for the rest of the game. The Dogs biggest lead was a 32 margin at 99-67 with 2:22 to play.
Fresno State had 58 second half points.
"The pace is fun for the players," Wiggins said. "They enjoy sharing the ball. We are taking good shots for the most part. Probably 85-90 percent of our shots were good shots tonight. The theory is we like 3-pointers but love lay ups and I thought we did a great job with lay ups tonight."
Fresno State kicks off the regular season on Saturday at the Save Mart Center against No. 13 Cal. The game can be heard live on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce. Last year the Bulldogs opened its home season off with a 61-51 victory over No. 18 BYU.
"They are Cal-Berkeley and we respect them a lot," Wiggins said. "They are a Top 15 team in the country. We are going to give our best effort. They are big, strong, fast and they play smart. They are pretty much everything you don't want to play against."
