Fresno, Calif. - The Bulldogs had a busy weekend as Fresno State competed in two events this weekend, splitting the men's and women's teams for competitions in two states. The men traveled to Bakersfield, where they participated in the non-scoring Lee Adams Invitational, while the women had a five-way indoor dual at Northern Arizona against Long Beach State, Southern Utah, UC Irvine and the host Lumberjacks.
The women went 2-2 in Flagstaff, defeating UC Irving handily 283-148 and beating Northern Arizona 239-211, losing just behind Long Beach State 238-228 and falling to Southern Utah in the meet 258-235. Top individual performances included Krystina Jackson's 8.81 in the 60-meter hurdles, a season high for the junior as well as the winning time in the event. Other winners for the Bulldogs included Aspen Marshall, who won both the shotput and the weight for a sweep of the throwing events, and Samantha Modeste, who's 3.70m jump was good for first place.
In the relays, the Bulldogs won both the 4x400 meter dash and the distance medley, scoring more points for the team. Closing out the high scorers, Zinzi Evans finished second in the 800-meter run, recording a season-high time.
On the men's side, Fresno State had some good performances in what was the first action for the men on the year, in what was a preseason tuneup in an unattached meet. James McCurley won the Men's 3,000 meter run, besting a large field of 24 runners. Other winners included Ryan Moore, Kellen Kennedy, Dave Endler and Allan Williamson.
Katie Richardson had a strong day while competeing unattached at the Lee Adams Invitational. Richardson won the javelin and the shotput on the women's side.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the WAC Indoor championships, and event held on Feb. 21-24 in Boise, Idaho. Following that competition, the Bulldogs will begin their outdoor track and field season with a three way dual at Stanford on March 3.
