Bulldogs Pick Up Road Win at UNLV

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team got back on track with a 5-2 road win at UNLV, Sunday in Las Vegas. Fresno State won the doubles point and was victorious in four singles matches, breaking its three-match losing streak and evening its record at 3-3.
The bottom of the lineup came up big for the Bulldogs Sunday afternoon. Both senior Jakub Cech and freshman Mirko Zapletal lost at the No. 1 and No 2 spots, respectively. But senior Charles Irie, sophomore Rudolf Siwy and freshman Tejesvi Veerepalli and Flavio Mollinedo all won in straight sets to deliver the win.
Mollinedo got his first collegiate victory, beating Luca Barlocchi 6-3, 6-4. Veerepalli, played at the No. 4 spot for the first time this year and won convincingly 6-1, 6-2 over Jonathon Hooper. Veerepalli has won five straight since losing in the season opener.
In doubles, Cech and Zapletal defeated Bijelica and Campbell 8-6, while No. 44 Irie and Veerepalli topped Hunter and Wronski 8-3.
Fresno State now heads home for three matches this weekend. First, the `Dogs host Arkansas on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Wathen Tennis Center. Then on Feb. 25, Fresno State hosts Pacific in a doubleheader beginning at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
