Fresno State Women Win Wildcat Invitational; Men Finish Second

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State had a strong finish in their second tournament of the outdoor season, taking the women's competition with a score of 201.5 points, outdistancing host Chico State by 19 points, and finishing second in the men's competition with 141 total points behind Chico State.
The women's top team event was the 400m hurdles, where the Bulldogs had the top four finishers, led by Krystina Jackson who won with a time of 1:02.60. Those finishes totaled up for 28 team points, the most for one event.
Jackson had a strong day overall, also winning in the 100m hurdles and finishing second in the long jump while competing in the event for the first time this year. Katie Richardson also had a good day for the Bulldogs, qualifying for the Regionals for the second straight year in the discus, winning the event with a throw of 48.98m. Richardson also won the shotput, out-throwing teammate Amanda Rollin, and finished fourth in the hammer and the javelin.
On the men's half, the Bulldogs trailed Chico State in team scoring, but easily defeated the five other schools at the meet. Fresno State won the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.80, consisting of Darryl Miller, Kenny Moon, Rion Spears and Juan Valdez.
Other individual marks of note included 1-2 finishes in both the pole vault and the long jump. Roy Phelps won the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.85m, beating teammate Andrew Pancotti, and DeAnte Brown won the gold in the long jump with a leap of 7.29m, finishing over Kellen Kennedy in second place at 7.12m.
The Bulldogs also had a solid day in the throwing events, as the Bulldogs swept the podium in the shot put, discus and hammer throw. Oscar Rodriguez won the shot put, Dave Endler won the discus, finishing second in the shot and the hammer, and Brian Vazquez won the hammer throw.
