San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Fresno State finished competition at the Cal Poly Invitational in individually scored event. The Bulldogs had one new regional qualifier in Brian Vazquez, and had 16 individual and relay winners on the day. Fresno State will now host two meets in a row, holding a five team dual meet next weekend before hosting the Cal-Nevada Championships on March 30-31.
Fresno State's day was highlighted by an outstanding meet by senior Katie Richardson who won three separate throwing events in San Luis Obispo. Richardson spearheaded a podium sweep of the women's hammer throw and javelin, and also won the discus with season-best throw of 165'08.75".
In the men's hammer throw, the Bulldogs repeated their sweep of the podium as Brian Vazquez, Chris Witscher and Oscar Rodriguez took the top three spots, and the Bulldogs won two other throwing events, with Rodriguez winning the shot put and Dave Endler topping two other Bulldogs in the men's discus.
Out on the track, the Bulldogs had a good day in the relay events, sweeping all four relays contested on Saturday. The men won the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and the women also took both of those races handily. Individually, Krystina Jackson continued her dominance in the 100m hurdles, winning again, and Rayna White and Christina Lopez finished first in the 100m and 200m dashes respectively. For the men, Ryan Moore won the 400m hurdles, his NCAA championship event from last season, and Juan Valdez won the 400m dash.
Fresno State also took one jumping event, with DeAnte Brown and Kellen Kennedy finishing first and second in the long jump. Samantha Modeste had the best finish for the women in any jumping event, finishing second in the pole vault.
As a non-team scored event, several former Bulldogs were in attendance as well, performing unattached at the meet. Kara June won the 1500m run for the women, and Chris Berrian won the men's 100 and 200m dashes.
