Track Takes Two Team Wins At Fresno Four-Way Dual

Fresno, Calif. - Personal bests, multiple winners and NCAA qualifiers were all in the mix as the Bulldogs hosted the first of four meets this year at Warmerdam Field this weekend. Zinzi Evans and Katie Richardson both won two events to help pace the women to 229 points and the win, and the men scored 228 behind two wins each from Dave Endler and Frank Sanders on the day.
Among the individual event winners, Fresno State saw three more members reach NCAA Regional qualifying marks. Krystina Jackson finally moved past the mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13:90 time, passing a time she'd flirted with for the past few competitions. Rather than working her way slowly, Andrea Greenman crushed her previous season best, improving nearly a foot in the pole vault to clear 3.81m, joining teammate Samantha Modeste in that height and as a Regional qualifier. Kellen Kenndy qualified in the long jump, winning with a 7.58m leap. The Bulldogs also found their first relay qualifiers, as the "A" team of Charles Williams, Kellen Kennedy, Quenton O'Neal and Durran Moore finished the 4x100m relay in 40.66 seconds.
For the women, Zinzi Evans took two middle distance runs, winning the 800-meters and also taking the 1500m race to score 18 points for the Bulldogs. Katie Richardson added another dominating day in the throwing events, winning the discus and hammer with season bests and also finishing second in the shot put and javelin. In the javelin, the Bulldogs swept the podium with Mallory Webb again winning her signature event, and newcomer Angie Larsen adding a big throw of 40.67, placing in third. Grace Weismann added a season-best in the hammer throw to finish in second behind Richardson.
The women swept the relays, winning both the 4x100m and 4x400m races, and had three more individual winners, with Meridith Hawkins grabbing her first win in the 5k run, and Christina Lopez and Erica McCoy winning the 400m run and hurdles respectively.
On the men's side, Durran Moore just missed qualifying in the 200m dash, finishing .18 hundreths short at 21.37, establishing a personal-best, and JuanValdez joined him as a sprint winner with a 48.66 in the 400m dash. The Bulldogs took the top-three sports in the 800m as well, with Sanders getting the win and Aaron Berry and Kyle Sunderland taking second and third. Ryan Moore easily won the 400m hurdles, and the Bulldogs also won the 4x400m relay, though not equaling the Regional qualifying status of the 4x100m team.
Fresno State also took two men's throwing events as well, as Dave Endler, Oscar Rodriguez and D.J. Haynes finished 1-3 in the shot put, and Endler and Haynes were one-two in the Discus.
Fresno State doesn't have to travel at all this week, instead staying in Fresno to host the prestigious Cal-Nevada Championships. With over 20 teams participating, Warmerdam Field will see great competition and a lot of action, with events starting on Friday, March 30, and lasting until the end of the day on March 31.
