Fresno State Faces Final Tuneup Before WAC
Travelling for their final team meet this season, the Bulldogs will have their final chance to qualify for the NCAA Regional before the WAC Tournament at the Modesto Relays on Saturday. That event marks the final weekend before Fresno State hosts the 2007 WAC Championships at Warmerdam Field, where the Bulldogs will do their best to improve from their 2006 finish and add a few more NCAA Qualifiers in the final full event for the team on the year.
Bulldogs Cruise In Dual With UC Davis
Fresno State's Dave Endler led the way with 13 points as the Bulldogs easily outpaced UC Davis 103.5 to 79.5 in the two teams' single dual on April 28. Endler won his two best events, the shot put and discus, and finished second in the hammer throw with a career-best 57.07m throw. Other top marks on the day included Ryan Rupcich's win in the pole vault, and Juan Valdez setting a season-high mark in the 400m dash at 47.92. Aaron Berry had a convincing win in the 800m, and DeAntea brown swept the distance jumping events, with wins in the long jump and the triple jump.
Modeste, Richardson Help `Dogs Edge Aggies
Samantha Modeste became just the third Fresno State woman to clear 13 feet in the pole vault, and Katie Richardson scored 18 team points as Fresno State narrowly beat UC Davis 94-93. Richardson won three throwing events, only finishing behind Grace Weismann in the hammer, who threw a career-best 52.78m. Christina Lopez set a PR in the 200m to win that event in 24.26, and Krystina Jackson contributed 7 points, winning in the 100m hurdles and placing third in the long jump to help the Bulldogs take the win.
Third Place Finish For Men In Cal-Nevadas
Despite not having any individual winners, Fresno State still finished in a strong third place at the Cal-Nevada Championships from March 30-31. Dave Endler led the way for the Bulldogs, advancing to three finals events out on the field, including a second-place finish in the shot put. The men had one other second place finisher on the day, as Ryan Moore advanced out of the heats as the top contender in the 400m hurdles, and finished second with a season-best 51-29 time in the finals. Overall, the Bulldogs had 85 team points, trailing UCLA and Cal State Fullerton.
Bulldogs Fourth At Cal-Nevada Championships
Fresno State was edged for third place by just a third of a point as the Bulldogs hosted the Cal-Nevada Championships March 30-31. The women had three different individual champs on the day. Zinzi Evans won the 800m run with a time of 2:11.05, her best on the year to start things off for the Bulldogs. Mallory Webb and Katie Richardson combined for a 1-2 finish in the javelin, with Webb throwing a season best 51.53m, and Richardson also won an event, taking the discus as part of her team-best 23 points.
Vazquez Qualifies At The Cal Poly Invitational
The men's thowing success highlighted the Bulldogs' effort at last weekend's Cal Poly Invitational, a non-team scoring event in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Brian Vazquez led a sweep of the podium in the hammer throw, qualifying for the second straight year in that event. Oscar Rodriguez won the shot put, and Dave Endler took led a second podium trio in the discus. The Bulldogs also won both relays along with the 400m, 440m hurdles, and the long jump behind the work of Juan Valdez, Ryan Moore, and DeAnte Brown respectively.
