Fresno, Calif. - With spring break in session last week, the Bulldog runners had the weekend off while the field members took their chance to shine at the Cal State Stanislaus Invitational this past weekend. The Bulldogs took their chance to let athletes try some new events, as well as have some new players take the spotlight on the weekend.
The women especially brought a small group, but those that did make the trip to Turlock made it worth their while. Grace Wiesmann won the hammer throw, easily outdistancing her competition with a throw of 48.71m, beating Butte College's Amanisha Murray by almost 8 meters. The javelin also saw a first-time winner, as Angie Larsen took the event by nearly ten meters, tossing a 37.21m best to get the win. Andrea Greenman, already qualified for the NCAA Regional in Oregon, also finished on the podium in third place in the pole vault.
Featuring a name not quite as new, Dave Endler had a big day at the CS Stanislaus, winning three of the four throwing events. Endler was the best in the shot put, hammer and discus, leading the way for a good competition for the Fresno State throwers. Chris Witscher also had two podium finishes, finishing second in the hammer and third in the discus, and Evan Young had his best placement of the year in the javelin, finishing second with a throw of 49.50m.
Four Bulldogs also competed in the men's pole vault, and Ryan Rupcich and Andrew Pancotti both cleared 4.85m to share the win in that event. Taylor Franzman was just behind with a jump of 4.40m, and Aaron Telloian cleared 4.10m as well. Vaulter Roy Phelps did not compete in that event however, instead taking time to run in the 200m dash, where he finished 16th. He joined Evan Young as the one of two track event participants on the day. Young finished second in the 110m hurdles at 15.11, his best time of the year.
