Wilson Scores 23 Against Baylor

Albuquerque, NM - The Fresno State women's basketball team put up a valiant effort in its first ever NCAA tournament game but the No. 14 seed Bulldogs fell short losing to No. 3 Baylor 88-67 at the Pit in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday. The loss ends Fresno State's season with a 22-11 record.
"We have a lot of things to celebrate this year as a team," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "We are very proud of our young ladies. They have been playing on a high level and they have been getting it done in the classroom as well. Today, if you look at the game we just faced a really good basketball team. You have to give a lot of credit to Baylor."
Tierre Wilson finished her final game in a Bulldog uniform with 23 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Emma Andrews was one point away from tying her career high with 15 points while Jaleesa Ross had 10 points. In Erica Henry's final game as a Fresno State player she led the team in rebounding with eight while Hayley Munro added six.
Fresno State shot 35 percent from the field and grabbed 40 rebounds for the game while Baylor shot 44 percent and had 49 rebounds.
Baylor, who is ranked No. 12 in the country, improved to 25-6 and will play Monday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Bulldogs never led in the game but they did have stretches where they stayed within reach. In the opening four minutes the game was tied three different times and the Bulldogs trailed 10-9 following a LaShaunte Stephens free throw with 14:20 left in the first half.
Baylor then went on a 17-2 run to take a 27-11 lead with 8:43 remaining in the period. The Bulldogs cut the Baylor lead to seven at 28-21 with 5:01 to play following a Wilson layup. With two minutes left until the break Fresno State trailed 37-28 before the Lady Bears scored the final six points to lead 43-28 at halftime.
Baylor led by as many as 25 in the second half.
