Bulldogs Come Through Against No. 50 SMU

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs knocked off No. 50 SMU in a tight 4-3 contest, and they are one match away from qualifying for the National Team Indoors Sweet 16.
The deciding team point came down to the last match, which pitted Fresno State's Rikus de Villiers against No. 118 Artem Baradach. In the third set de Villiers put away the match with a score of 6-4.
"I'm proud of the way Rikus served out the match to clinch the victory for us," Bulldog coach Jay Udwadia said.
The Bulldogs also won all three doubles matches, which proved to be a vital point to the victory.
"Again we continued to play solid doubles Udwadia said. "This is a great win for our program. SMU will be highly ranked this year."
Fresno State now plays No. 3 UCLA tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST. The winner of the match will earn an invitation to play in the National Team Indoors Sweet 16 in Champlain, Ill. on Feb. 13-16.
