`Dogs Beat Wolf Pack, 3-1

FRESNO, Calif. - Three was the magic number for the Fresno State women's soccer team as they beat Nevada, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored all three goals in the first half, which is the most in a single game this season. The `Dogs improve to 3-2 in WAC play and 5-10 overall.
"I thought that the whole team back to front played the most composed I've seen all season," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "It is great to see it all come to fruition. We scored three great goals from three diff goal scorers."
The Bulldogs took an early lead 12 minutes into the match. Sophomore Molly Nizzoli sent a direct pass splitting the defenders to Janna Sadowitz. She went against goalkeeper Marie Cove and slotted it past her for the lead, 1-0.
Sadowitz has two goals this season. Nizzoli earned her first assist of the season on the play.
In the 22nd minute, Fresno State extended their lead with a goal from Claudia Cardenas. The Bulldogs were awarded a free kick. Defender Vanessa Gonzalez took the kick and placed it in behind the Nevada defense to Cardenas. Cardenas took on the Nevada goalkeeper for the second goal of the afternoon.
Cardenas leads the team with four goals. Gonzalez earned her first career assist on the play.
A minute later the Wolf Pack got on the board with an unassisted goal from Ellie Scott and the Bulldogs continued to lead, 2-1.
Bradlee DeShane scored an insurance goal for the Bulldogs in the 30th minute. A series of passes lead to Kendall VanDine playing the ball to Laura Dodd who crossed it to DeShane. DeShane rushed the goal and placed it in the back of the net giving the Bulldogs the lead, 3-1.
The goal is the first career goal for DeShane. Both VanDine and Dodd earned assists with the goal. VanDine and Dodd are tied with Callie Hancock for the most assists this season. All have two assists each.
Each team ended the game with nine shots and the Bulldogs had eight shots on goal. Sadowitz led the team with three shots against Nevada.
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel finished the game with one save.
"It really was an unbelievable team effort," said Zwaschka. "We stuck to the game plan and it was great to see it all come to fruition. The team is getting recognition of what we have been working on and it is a great incentive to continue."
The Bulldogs close out the regular season at home next weekend against Boise State and Idaho.
