Fresno State Finds Success at Cal-Nevadas

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs wrapped up the Cal-Nevada Championships in Los Angeles Sunday, taking sixth on the women's side and seventh in the men's competition.
The women's team finished in sixth with 49 points in the 24-team field. The men amassed 51 points among the 22 teams competing.
Latrisha Jordan highlighted the day for the women, continuing her dominance of the 400-meter hurdles. Jordan reset the Fresno State record for the event with a first-place finish, clocking in at 58.69 seconds.
Tiera Hilliard added to the Bulldog's success in 400 events, nabbing a sixth-place finish in the finals of the quarter-mile race. The sophomore ran a season-best of 55.71 in the 400.
The relay teams met success on the track. The 4x100 team picked up a season-best 46.92 to take sixth place. The 4x400 team also finished among the Top 10, taking seventh.
Kayla Xavier led the Bulldogs on the field, placing fourth in the shot put. Xavier threw 46-8 (14.22m) in the 27-person field. Sharon Ayala finished fifth in the discus with Xavier just back in ninth. Ayala marked a 151-0 (46.02m), while Xavier threw a season-best 148-2 (45.17m).

Darryl Miller timed a 49.06 in the 400 to take eighth in the finals. Eric Battles also earned an eighth-place finish with a personal-best 3:53.50 in the 1,500.
The men's 4x400 relay team bettered its season-best by nearly five seconds Sunday, timing a 3:12.95 for third place.
Tim Greene picked up the Bulldog's top finisher on the field Sunday, throwing a personal-best 164-7 (50.17m) in the discus for sixth.
Fresno State travels to the Cal Poly Invitational on April 4.
Saturday's Results:
Sharon Ayala led the women's squad with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark and a second-place finish in the hammer throw. The senior tossed the hammer 200 feet, 5 inches (61.10 meters) to mark a season-best in her second outdoor meet of 2009. Senior Grace Wiesmann marked a personal-best of 178-3 (54.33m) to finish sixth in the hammer. Wiesmann has improved on her NCAA Regional qualifying mark and personal-best nearly every week this season. Kayla Xavier rounded out the Bulldog's performance in the hammer, taking eighth and marking a personal-best 175-0 (53.33m) on the day.
Jacqueline Vazquez picked up a Top 10 finish in the javelin throw. Vazquez's 127-7 (38.88m) toss landed her eighth-place and a season-best. Pole vaulter Cara Montes also picked up a Top 10 placing, nabbing 10th with a clearance of 12-1.50 (3.70m).
On the men's side, Peter Krumeich beat out the 25-man field in the javelin throw with a toss of 197-5 (60.17m) to win the event.
Tim Greene picked up a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 189-11 (57.89m). Greene bested his former PR by a foot in the day's last event. Raul Gonzalez added to the Bulldog success in throws, nabbing eighth in the event with a new personal-best 181-10 (55.42m), beating his former mark by more than two feet. Max Hernandez led the Bulldogs on the track, taking seventh in the 10,000. The sophomore timed a personal-best 32:13.55.
The Bulldog men qualified for finals in three events out of Saturday's prelims. Val-Pierre Dai'Re earned bids in both the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. Dai'Re ran season-bests in both events, timing a 14.39 in the 110s and a 53.48 in the 400s. Kendrick Young will be joining Dai'Re in the 400 hurdle finals with a 53.48.
Senior Darryl Miller nabbed a spot in the finals of the 400, just .03 seconds off his season-best.
The Bulldogs take the field again on Sunday at UCLA's Drake Stadium. Competition begins at 7 a.m. with the women's discus, men's shot put and men's pole vault.
