FRESNO, Calif. - No. 40 Fresno State clashed with No. 14 Pepperdine in the Waves' 6-1 victory on Friday in Las Vegas, Nev.
The 47th-ranked Bulldog doubles team of Mirko Zapletal and Rudolf Siwy scored a major upset by knocking off No. 8 Bassam Beidas and Omar Altmann, 8-6.
The Waves picked up wins in the other two doubles matches to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, Fresno State's Tejesvi Veerepali went three sets to defeat the Waves' Alex Moreno. Veerepali won the first set before Moreno tied the match at one apiece, but Veerepali pulled out the victory, winning the tiebreaker set, 10-2.
Bulldogs Remi Boutillier and Zapletal both took their opponents to a final set, but the tiebreaker went Pepperdine's way.
Fresno State will play UNLV Saturday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs return home to the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center on March 17 to face Indiana.
