FRESNO, Calif. - Sharon Ayala is making breaking records a weekly occurrence.
Ayala annihilated the Fresno State hammer throw record with a toss of 216 feet (65.84 meters) on the final day of the 51st Mt. SAC Relays.
The senior, who originally broke the record in 2008 and has reset it numerous times since, competed in the Invitational Division of the meet, taking seventh overall and second among collegiate athletes. The new mark constitutes a ten foot increase from the record she last set of 205-4.75 (62.61m) at the Cal Poly Invitational on April 4, 2009.
In addition to Ayala's regional qualifying mark, Val-Pierre Dai'Re, Latrisha Jordan, and Grace Wiesmann all met the NCAA Regional qualifying standards Saturday.
Grace Wiesmann broke her own personal record Saturday In the open division of the hammer. Wiesmann, a senior, set a career-best with a throw of 179-8 (54.77m). The fifth place throw was nearly a foot and a half further than her former PR and two feet better than the regional-qualifying mark.
Latrisha Jordan timed 59.66 seconds in the open division of the 400 hurdles. It is the fourth time this season Jordan has clocked a postseason-qualifying time.
In the open division of the 400, Tiera Hilliard took first, besting the competition with a 56.31, just off her season-best.
The women's 4x100 relay team ran in the Invitational division, clocking a 47.35 for sixth.
Val-Pierre Dai'Re led the men's contingent on Saturday, picking up solid times in both hurdle events.
