Jordan Breaks Record - Again

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State began the Brutus Hamilton Invitational with a bang Friday. The Bulldogs spent the day breaking records, setting new personal-bests and winning events.
"We had a great day the first day," said head coach Scott Winsor. "Now we have to keep the ball rolling."
Latrisha Jordan dominated the 400-meter hurdles, setting a new record in the quarter mile hurdles. The freshman won the event with a 58.49, besting the school record she set March 29 by .20 seconds.
"Latrisha is such a great competitor," said head coach Scott Winsor. "She doesn't even know her own ability yet. When there's someone in front of her, she just goes out and catches them. She has a lot more speed in her."
Val-Pierre Dai'Re also found success in the 400 hurdles, setting a career-best with a time of 51.00 for third. Both Jordan and Dai'Re easily met the NCAA Regional standards in the 400 hurdles.
"Val is running very well and getting better on a weekly basis," said Winsor. "He hasn't reached his peak yet and he's going to get better. We have one more meet and then a week off before conference. I know Latrisha and Val are going to be even better by the WAC Championships."
The hammer throw was another event to watch Friday for both the women and the men. Sharon Ayala led the women's three-athlete surge, picking up first with an NCAA Regional qualifying toss of 204 feet, 8 inches feet (62.38meters). Grace Wiesmann and Kayla Xavier took fourth and sixth, respectively, to dominate the event.
"Consistency is the key word with the throwers," said Winsor. "They've been consistent all year long and that really proves how good they are."
For the men, Tim Greene pulled in a third place finish in the men's hammer with a heave of 184-7 (56.26m). Raul Gonzalez was one spot back, landing fourth with a toss of 175-8 (53.55m).
"Tim is ready to throw big," said Winsor. "He threw very well today and is very close to that huge throw."
Peter Krumeich continued to shine in the javelin throw, taking fifth in the event with a toss of 192-0 (58.52m).
The men also flexed their muscles in the pole vault. Seniors Taylor Franzman and Evan Young snagged the silver and bronze, respectively. Franzman tied his personal best with a vault of 15-7 (4.75m), while Young significantly upped his career-best to 15-1 (4.60m) from 14-7.
Durran Moore out-sprinted the all but one competitor in the 200. Moore's 21.82 for second place set a new personal-best.
The Brutus Hamilton Invitational concludes tomorrow at Edwards Stadium, with the field events starting at 10 a.m. and the running events beginning at 1 p.m.
