Ribera Garners Preseason Award

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2011 baseball season is still a few months away, but the awards are rolling in already for the Bulldogs. First baseman Jordan Ribera was named a Preseason All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association. The NCBWA announced the 2011 Preseason All-American teams Wednesday and Ribera earned first-team honors.
The 2010 Western Athletic Conference Player of the year led the nation in home runs with 27 homers. In 2010, he hit .343 and had a total of 49 extra base hits. Ribera started every game for the Bulldogs last year. He also led the team in RBIs (65) and slugging percentage (.752).
Ribera competed in two home run derbys over the summer and led the Cape Cod League in home runs.
The senior is the one of two WAC players to be named to NCBWA's Preseason All-Americans.
Ribera and the Dogs kick off the 2011 season on Feb. 18 against Gonzaga at Pete Beiden Field.
