The Bulldogs got off to a strong start by jumping out to a 31-11 lead after a Moult jumper with 6:49 to play. Over the final seven minutes Fresno State managed only seven points but still led 38-24 at halftime.
The Aggies slowly chipped away at the Fresno State lead and came within seven at 46-39 with 13:56 left in the game.
"We are very thankful that we got a chance to come out of here with a victory," Fresno State coach Adrian Wiggins said. "We started off playing really great basketball. The first 10 minutes was one of the best road games we have ever played. Then we just lost our focus and Utah State made some adjustments and we didn't keep the momentum going. We are fortunate to have a win tonight."
With Fresno State leading by 10 at 58-48 with 8:28 left in the game, the Bulldogs were held scoreless for four minutes and Utah State tied the game at 58 with 4:29 remaining. Fresno State never allowed Utah State to take the lead.
Ross then hit a 3-pointer a minute later to give Fresno State a 61-58 lead and the Bulldogs went six-for-seven from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the six-point victory. Ross and Munro combined for the final 13 points of the game.
"We just slowed down," Wiggins said. "Travel is no excuse but we got tired and winded and a little frustration set in. The reality is that we handled the end of the game well and we made free throws and came away with a victory on the road."
