FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior Roxanne Sellick brought home a conference title in the 1-mile race, with a time of 4:54.87, at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Boise, Idaho.
The Bulldogs finished eighth in the team standings with 49.50 points. Louisiana Tech won the indoor conference title with 175 points.
Sellick shined for the Bulldogs, as she took home the championship in the 1-mile, beating the defending champion, Erin Stratton of Utah State, by nearly two seconds.
"Roxanne is the heart and soul of our team," Fresno State head coach Scott Winsor said. "She ran a very smart race and she knew how to run it. The last 800 meters she just put them away."
Sellick also had a gutsy performance in 3,000-meter. Her shoe came off in the first lap of the race and finished with a time of 10:18.11 for second place. The winner of the race, Kim Quinn of Utah State, was only 1.40 seconds ahead of her.
"It was just as impressive as her performance in the mile," Winsor said. "She came back, after losing her shoe in Lap 1, runs 14 laps with one shoe and still nearly won the race."
After the race, her cramping foot was examined and three of her toes were covered in blisters.
Other notable Bulldog performances include Nancy Vizcarra, who took third in the weight throw, with a career-best of 17.04 meters. Shanelle Stevens took sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.78 and Vanessa Sautebin finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.73.
The Bulldogs will next be in action on March 12-13 at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
