Bulldogs Triumphant Against Rebels

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 27 Fresno State men's tennis team continued its home dominance by defeating UNLV, 6-1, on Sunday, to extend its record to 6-0 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center this season.
"UNLV is a tough team and anytime you beat a team of that caliber, it's something positive you can build upon," Fresno State head coach Jay Udwadia said.
The Bulldogs started the match on a high note by winning the doubles point.
No. 23 Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier sent away the Rebels' Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi, 8-3. Siddharth Alapati and Mirko Zapletal defeated Kasper Konyves and Attila Toth, 8-1, to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, sophomore Remi Boutillier continued the momentum and knocked off Johannes Markel, 6-3, 6-3, to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
Fresno State junior Siddharth Alapati came out focused, as he defeated Charlie Alvarado, 7-5, 6-0.
"I played really solid," Alapati said. "I was staying in the point and not making a lot of mistakes."
The Bulldogs' Zapletal recorded a straight-sets victory over a ranked opponent, by beating No. 108 Bouras, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
"It always feels good to win close matches, especially in front of the home crowd," Zapletal said.
Sophomore David Ayoun had a strong performance for the Bulldogs, as he defeated Kasper Konyves, 6-3, 6-4. Fresno State junior Rikus de Villiers also picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 6-2 victory against Luca Barlocchi.
The Bulldogs will next be in action against San Diego State on Thursday in San Diego, Calif.
