'Dogs Duel Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog track and field teams traveled to San Luis Obispo, Calif., for the annual Fresno State vs. Cal Poly dual meet Saturday.
The Mustangs edged Fresno State in both team totals, but the Bulldogs had good showings across the events.
"We had some positives today," said head coach Scott Winsor. "We just need to get more of the team to step up and begin providing those positives."
Fresno State dominated the women's throws Saturday, winning all four events. Rosario Sanchez won the discus throw with a toss of 137-11.75 (42.06m), a mark more than 16 feet beyond the nearest competitor. J'Quyra Moncur-Blue scored a win in the hammer throw. Moncur-Blue marked a throw of 171-2.50 (52.19m) to beat out the competition. The Bulldogs took first and second in the shot put behind solid marks of 47-1.25 (14.36m) and 42-1.75 (12.85m) by Sanchez and Moncur-Blue, respectively. Christina Cabias rounded out the `Dogs domination in the throws with a toss of 114-3.50 (34.84m).
Also meeting with success on the field was Andrea Greenman. The redshirt-sophomore won the pole vault, clearing 11-5.75 (3.50m).
Roxanne Sellick stepped up for the `Dogs in two events at the dual. Early in the day, Sellick took third in the 1,500 meter run before taking to the track in the day's longest race, the 5,000. The senior from Fresno, Calif., later won the 5,000, timing in at 17:44.08 more than 25 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Marrijtje Molenhuis also found success in the women's 1,500, clocking in at 4:46.20 for second, just ahead of Sellick. Later in the day, Molenhuis would take third behind teammate Brijon Menefield in the 800. Menefield clocked a 2:22.33 for silver, while Molenjuis timed a 2:22.40.
The Bulldogs went 1-2 in the 400. Junior Tiera Hilliard won the quarter-mile race at 57.41 with freshman Breeauna Thompson on her heels in second at 57.69. Hilliard also picked up a second-place finish in the 200. In the fastest race of the day, the 100, Shanelle Stephens finished in second with a time of 12.21.
All-American Latrisha Jordan picked up a win in her signature event, the 400 hurdles, timing in at 1:05.46. The Bulldogs also won out in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:55.63, besting the Cal Poly team by more than seven seconds.
On the men's side, Fresno State picked up a set of wins in the throws as well. Senior Tim Greene won the hammer throw, marking a 187-3.50 (57.09m), out-throwing his opponents by more than 25 feet. Freshman Kory Stephens and junior David Deal were the top two finishers in the javelin throw. Stephens' throw of 183-4 (55.88m) gave him the win. Justin Cutler took silver in the discus with a lifetime best of 161-5.75 (49.22m), just ahead of Greene, who grabbed third.
Deal, a decathlete, also put in a big performance in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 22-0.5 (6.72m).
On the track, Kendrick Young and Frank Sanders each nabbed wins in their top events. Young won the 400 hurdles, timing in at 52.03. Sanders won the 800 by nearly a second with a time of 1:53.26.
In the day's longest race, 5,000, Paul Zwama took second crossing the line at 14:50.52. Cameron Parker grabbed a silver medal as well, marking exactly a 22-second time in the 200.
The Bulldogs head to Los Angeles Friday for the Trojan Invitational at USC.
