FRESNO, Calif. --- The countdown to Opening Day is officially underway for the Fresno State softball team and Bulldog fans can get a jump start on the season by attending Saturday's "Meet the Team" event from 1-3 p.m. at River Park.
This will be the first time for the event in three years after the past two seasons "Meet the Team" opportunities were canceled due to rain. The forecast for Saturday is sunny skies and temperatures in the low 60s.
Fans are invited to bring items to be autographed, take photographs and talk with the Bulldogs about the upcoming season.
On Sunday, the Dogs will attend the annual "Meet the Team Luncheon" at TorNino's, hosted by the Diamond Club of the Bulldog Foundation. A social hour will start at noon and the program will begin at 1 p.m. There are a few remaining tickets to the luncheon, which must be purchased in advance. For more information, please call Dorothy Hunter at 559-439-0605.
The first chance to see the Bulldogs in action will be at the Feb. 7 men's basketball home game against Cal State Bakersfield. Head coach Margie Wright will introduce the 2011 team to the crowd at the Save Mart Center during a pitching demonstration at halftime. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
All fans in attendance can use their Feb. 7 men's basketball ticket for free admission at the Feb. 12 softball Opening Day doubleheader with Sacramento State.
In their final scheduled preseason appearance, the Dogs will be featured on Feb. 10 between 5-10 a.m. on KMPH 26's Great Day Morning Show in special segments with Clayton Clark.
All the events lead up to the start of Fresno State's run to make their 30th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs host the Hornets in a doubleheader to open the 2011 season on Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. On Opening Day, all fans are asked to wear red to show their Bulldog spirit, free Fresno State ice cream will be given away (while supplies last) and kids will be able to run the bases after the conclusion of the second game.
Softball season tickets are available for as low as $39 for youth/senior in general admission areas, $65 for adult general admission, $78 for upper reserved seating and $130 for lower box seating. This represents an affordable price reduction from previous seasons and gives Bulldog fans significant savings when compared to the single game ticket price.
Fans can purchase season tickets by logging on to www.gobulldogs.com, calling 559-278-DOGS or by visiting the Bulldog Ticket Office.
And if you would like to ask softball questions to Wright, the NCAA all-time winningest Division I head softball coach and 14 wins shy of 1400 career victories, make sure to attend a "Lunch with Margie" at Silver Dollar Hofbrau four times during the season. The first date will be Feb. 21, followed by March 21, April 11 and May 9. Wright will address the group at noon each of those days.
"We Are Your Team!" --- The Fresno State softball team will start the 2011 season on Feb. 12 with a doubleheader against Sacramento State at Bulldog Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Season tickets and single-day tickets are available throughout the season.
