Bulldogs Sit in Fifth After First Day

FRESNO, Calif. - With two rounds of the San Diego Intercollegiate in the books, the men's golf team find themselves in fifth place. The Dogs (365-381--746) shot a 26-over on the 7,033-yard, par-72 course at the pristine San Diego Country Club.
Nate Jessup, a freshman from Porterville, Calif., holds the top spot for the Bulldogs with a 3-over and is currently tied for 16th place. Jessup (71-76--147) ended the first round at 1-under and sunk seven birdies between the two rounds, two of which were on the 563-yard, par-5 eighth.
Four of the six Dogs who made the trip are at 6-over and they include Bhavik Patel (73-77--150), Brian Sunker (73-77--150), Bryan Hogan (75-75--150) and Michael Gideon (73-77--150). Senior Brad Wyatt (78-76--154, +10) fired an eagle on the 485-yard, par-5 14th hole during the second round.
SMU sits on top of the leader board at 4-over with Texas Arlington right behind at 7-over. Co-hosts No. 7 San Diego State and No. 19 San Diego are in the third and fourth spots, respectively. No. 27 Alex Ching of San Diego and No. 74 Kelly Kraft of SMU are tied for the individual lead at 5-under. SMU's Aaron Stewart is the only other player under-par with a 1-under which puts him in third.
The final day of the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic will be begin Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. with final groups going off holes 1 and 10. Live stats are available at www.golfstat.com.
