Dogs Take Charge Against New Mexico

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State earns its fourth victory over a ranked team this year, defeating No. 45 New Mexico, 5-2 on Sunday at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point swiftly, and proceeded to win four singles matches in two sets on courts one, three, four and six to bring home the victory.
In doubles action, No. 19 doubles team Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier competed on court one against Ben Dunbar and Joe Wood. Earning a solid lead, the Dogs gave up only four games in the day and defeated the Lobos, 8-4.
Clinching the doubles point for the Dogs, David Ayoun and Siddharth Alapati didn't give up the fight to New Mexico's Carl Ho and Matt Neeld. Pushing into a super tiebreaker, the Dogs were victorious and earned the final two points to win the match, 9-8 (8-6).
Proving to be the fighting team they are, the Dogs kept the victories coming in singles.
Fresno State's senior de Villiers upped his resume by one, earning a victory over Dunbar, 6-2, 7-5 on court one.
On court four, Jean-Charles Diame continued his impressive skills and dominated over Phillip Anderson, 7-5, 6-3.
Advancing the Dogs score by one, Francis Alcantara defeated New Mexico's Ho in a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-4 on court three.
Earning another Fresno State straight-set victory, Ayoun competed on court six against Wood. The junior from Ceteil, France defeated the Lobo, 6-4, 6-4.
The Lobos earned victories on court two and five.
The Dogs are back at home this coming weekend to take on UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon.
