Dogs Take Down Gauchos, 4-3

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 41st ranked Fresno State defeats University of California Santa Barbara, 4-3 at the Wathen Tennis Center. This concludes the Dogs non-conference competition.
Fresno State got an early lead in the day sweeping the doubles teams and earning the point.
On court two, Francis Alcantara and Jean-Charles Diame finished first in the day and defeated UCSB's Benjamin Recknagel and Mathieu Forget, 8-4. Clinching the doubles point for the Dogs, the No. 17 doubles team Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier dominated against the Gauchos' Alex Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez-Goggin, 8-3. On court three, Siddharth Alapati and David Ayoun earned the final victory in doubles, topping Philip Therp and Evan Jurgensen, 8-7 (9-7).
In singles, Alcantara took an early lead and defeated Forget, 6-2, 6-1 on court three advancing Fresno State 2-0 over UCSB.
Victories continued for the Dogs as Diame topped Chavez-Goggin, 6-4, 6-3 on court four, giving the Bulldogs their 3-0 lead over the Gauchos.
The Gauchos earned their first point in the day on court one as de Villiers fell to Recknagel, 6-1, 6-2. Dropping his first set, 4-6 Ayoun rallied back in the second set, 6-4 and took the match to a third set. Therp picked up the third set and earned the Gauchos their second point in the day. UCSB's final point was won on court five when Glenn rallied back from a first set lost and defeated Alapati, 3-6, 6-4 6-2.
Boutillier clinched the match for the Dogs in the battle on court two. Boutillier and Konigsfeldt rallied back and forth to three matches and in the end Boutillier proved to be the stronger opponent defeating the Gaucho, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
The Bulldogs will travel to Hawaii April 8 to start their WAC competition.
