FRESNO, Calif. - As the Dogs prepare for their final month of the season, Fresno State's final three potential non-conference regular season games have all been canceled due to unforeseen schedule challenges.
A Fresno State-UC Santa Barbara non-conference doubleheader that had been rescheduled for April 26 and a make-up game with Oregon State will not be played.
The Bulldogs and Gauchos were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader on March 22 that was shelved due to an inclement weather forecast.
The Bulldogs and Beavers were set to meet on the final day of the prestigious Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., on Feb. 27 before a delayed start time would not have allowed Oregon State to make their flight home from the tournament.
Overall, the Bulldogs have had seven games canceled due to either weather or travel logistics.
Fresno State (26-11, 10-2 WAC) can now turn its sole focus to finishing the final nine games of the Western Athletic Conference regular season and hosting the 2011 WAC Tournament May 11-14 with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament awarded to the winner. The Bulldogs hold an NCAA record for appearing in all 29 NCAA Softball Tournaments.
This season, the Dogs own six wins over Top 25 teams and went 4-1 against teams that advanced to the 2010 Women's College World Series.
Fresno State leads the WAC with an RPI of 24, followed by New Mexico State (52), Hawai'i (58) and Boise State (88) for four WAC schools ranked in the Top 90.
