STOCKTON, Calif. - The national spotlight and a dominating sweep of then-No. 20/25 Hawai'i propelled the Bulldog softball team into the Top 25 of the USA Today/NFCA Poll (No. 23) and ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll (No. 25), the two organizations announced Tuesday morning.
The No. 23/25 Fresno State Bulldogs sport a seven-game win streak that started with a 3-1 win over then-No. 5/6 Michigan and includes four victories versus schools ranked in the Top 25.
Overall, Fresno State (22-8) is 6-4 against schools ranked in the Top 25 of the two major national polls at the time of the contest.
In the three victories over the Rainbow Wahine, Fresno State's Michelle Moses went 2-0 with a save and 16.0 innings of scoreless ball. Moses tossed her first no-hitter in the Dogs' 5-0 win before an ESPNU audience in the Friday night showdown.
Moses' effort received Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. She also earned recognition as an ESPNU Capital One Impact Performance and NFCA Top Performance.
Earlier this year, Fresno State also entered the USA Today/NFCA Poll at the No. 23 position when the Bulldogs were 3-0 following a 6-3 San Diego Classic I victory over then-No. 8/10 and 2010 Women's College World Series participant Missouri.
This is the first time this season that the Dogs moved into the Top 25 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll.
Fresno State received votes every week the two major national polls released their rankings this season.
The Bulldogs are visiting the Pacific Tigers on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. make-up game in Stockton. The teams had a doubleheader scheduled for Feb. 15 changed to the single game due to an inclement weather forecast.
Fresno State remains the only program in the nation to qualify for all 29 NCAA Tournaments.
"We Are Your Team!" --- Fresno State will visit Pacific (April 5) and New Mexico State (April 8-9) before returning to Bulldog Diamond to host San Jose State on April 15 at 6 p.m. and an April 16 doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m. Make sure to stay connected with Fresno State Athletics on Facebook and Twitter (@FSAthletics).
