Dogs Host Nevada in WAC Finale

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs conclude the 2011 Western Athletic Conference regular season against Nevada on May 19. The game is a make-up of a game postponed in April. The Dogs finish the season with three non-conference games against CSU Bakersfield before heading to the WAC Tournament on May 24.

Earlier this season the Bulldogs won three straight games against the Wolf Pack. The Dogs lead the overall series 83-47 and have a four-game winning streak heading into the match up.
About the Wolf Pack
Nevada is 9-10 in conference play and in fourth place in the standings. The Wolf Pack have an overall record of 20-27 this season. As a team, the Pack is hitting .275 with 27 home runs and 208 RBIs. Brock Stassi leads the Pack with a .383 batting average and a team-high 18 doubles. The pitching staff has an ERA of 5.28 and 243 strikeouts. Starter Troy Marks has a 2-4 record and an ERA of 3.90.
And the Winner is...
Junior Dusty Robinson became the second Bulldog to be named WAC Hitter of the Week this year. The outfielder hit .500 with two homers, two doubles and 10 RBIs in four games against New Mexico State. Brennan Gowens earned Hitter of the Week earlier this season and Greg Gonzalez has been named Pitcher of the Week four times.
Gonzalez Garners National Attention
Senior Greg Gonzalez has been named to the College Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year Watch List and to the Golden Spike Watch List. The right-hander is one of 25 players on CBF's watch list and one of 50 on the Golden Spike watch list. Gonzalez leads the team and conference in strikeouts with 106 and has the best ERA in the WAC (1.47).
Bulldog Winning Ways
The Bulldogs are among the top teams with the fewest losses in the nation. Fresno State has the sixth best winning percentage in college baseball with a 36-11 record (.766). Virginia leads the nation with a record of 43-5 (.882). Only Virginia and Vanderbilt have fewer losses than the Bulldogs.
How the Dogs Stack Up Nationally
The Bulldogs rank among the top 20 in the nation in several statistical categories. As a team, the Dogs have the 15th best ERA (2.81) in the country, the sixth best winning percentage (.766) and the 17th best slugging percentage (.461). Greg Gonzalez is 13th in the nation with a 1.47 ERA and sixth in the nation in strikeouts (106). Gonzalez is also 10th in the country in hits allowed per nine innings (5.78).
