FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Dusty Robinson and Greg Gonzalez were honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings for their performances during the 2011 season.
Robinson, who was named the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and taken in the 10th round (316 overall pick) by the Oakland A's, earned the ABCA's second-team All-America and first-team All-West Region recognition.
This is his second All-American honor this season, as he previously grabbed third-team All-America status by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Robinson, a junior outfielder from Bakersfield, Calif. (Centennial HS), led the WAC in home runs with 16 and doubles with 20. He hit .310 with 39 extra base hits and received first-team All-WAC honors in 2011.
Gonzalez garnered second-team All-West Region honors following a breakout senior season that led to his selection as the WAC Pitcher of the Year and helped Fresno State win its sixth straight conference championship.
Gonzalez, a senior pitcher from San Bruno, Calif., had the best ERA in the league at 1.79 giving up 21 earned runs in 105.1 innings pitched. He also led the WAC in strikeouts with 124.
Last month, he was named a first-team All-American by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. Gonzalez was also drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 15th round as the 473 overall pick.
The NCAA's 298 Division I schools are divided into eight regions. The West Region encompasses 36 Division I schools. The 36 coaches nominate their players for recognition then vote to select a first and second All-West Region Team. First-team selectees become nominees with the first All-Region Teams from the other 7 regions for All-America recognition.
