Six More Dogs Headed to NFL

FRESNO, Calif. - The call fulfilling childhood dreams finally came for several former Fresno State football players this week.
Cornell Banks, Ryan Colburn, Desia Dunn, Jamel Hamler, Ben Jacobs and Kenny Wiggins all signed rookie free agent contracts and begin their professional careers at NFL training camps in the next few weeks.
Banks signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. The defensive lineman recorded 24 tackles during the 2010 season. He had 3.5 tackles for a loss of nine yards and recorded one sack.
Colburn was the next of a long line of Bulldog quarterbacks to join the NFL. He signed with the New Orleans Saints. Colburn completed 227 of 360 passes for 2,817 yards last season. He threw for 23 touchdowns. Colburn averaged 216.7 passing yards a game.
A former defensive back, Dunn, will join the Arizona Cardinals for the 2011 season. He was fifth on the team in tackles with 65. Dunn had five broken up passes and a forced fumble. He also caught two interceptions for 29 yards in 2010.
Hamler is headed to Denver and will play for the Broncos. The wide receiver led the team in receiving yards with 812 and 54 receptions He was second on the team with six touchdowns and averaged 67.7 yards a game.
Jacobs signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns. The linebacker led the team in tackles with 87 (38 solo and 49 assisted) last season. He also recorded a sack and a blocked kick. Jacobs played in every game during his four year career with the Bulldogs.
An Offensive lineman, Wiggins, joins the San Francisco 49ers. He started every game on the line for the Bulldogs and was an All-WAC selection in 2010.
Earlier this summer, WAC Defensive Player of the Year Chris Carter and All-WAC lineman Andrew Jackson were drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons, respectively.
