Bulldogs Beat Broncos, 5-2

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 33 Fresno State beat No. 48 Santa Clara today, 5-2, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
After a close fight in doubles play, the Bulldogs pulled out the doubles win. No. 1 doubles team Remi Boutillier and Francis Alcantara started off the Bulldogs' victory when they bested Santa Clara's John Lambel and Ilya Osintsev, 8-4.
The Broncos bucked the `Dogs' No. 3 doubles team, Sai Kartik Nakireddi and Jean-Charles Diame, 9-7, in a close match to tie the Bulldogs. At No. 2 doubles, David Ayoun and Zachary Leslie won the deciding match, 8-6, over Kyle Dandan and Ton Pham to earn the `Dogs the double point.
Ayoun was the first to finish in singles besting the Broncos' Vinel, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4. No. 44 ranked Alcantara quickly followed at No. 2 singles, defeating Dandan, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles Diame won by default over Armengaud, 6-3, 5-3, def, which clinched the team win for the Bulldogs.
At No. 6 singles, freshman Reid DeLaubenfels fell to Eugene Muchynski, 6-3, 6-4, and Leslie lost to Pham, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5. To finish the day, No. 14 Boutillier came from behind in a thrilling match to defeat Lambel, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
The win over the Broncos marks a perfect 3-0 weekend for the team in front of its home crowd. The `Dogs return to the Wathen Center again on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to face off against San Francisco at noon.
