Tennis Completes Fifth Fall Tournament

MORAGA, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team concluded the last day of the Saint Mary's Invitational on Sunday at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif.
The `Dogs battled rain delays over the weekend, resulting in incompletion of some events. Despite the weather conditions, Fresno State picked up four wins in singles play and went 1-for-2 in doubles on Sunday.
"We really stepped up on Championship Sunday," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "We beat some very good opponents and saw improvement in everybody. We came away from this Tournament stronger and are looking forward to using that experience in our tournament next week our very own Bulldog Classic."
In singles, junior Anneka Watts defeated San Jose State in the red singles consolation bracket and senior Tanya Murtagh reached the quarterfinal round in white singles consolation with victories over Cal Poly and UC Davis. In Sunday's round robin play, junior Rana Sherif Ahmed won 6-3, 6-3 against UC Santa Barbara's Priscilla Garcia.
In the two doubles matches played, the Bulldogs topped Pacific's Regina Suarez and Christina Saenz De Buruaga, 8-6 in the first round and fell to Saint Mary's in the semifinals.
Fresno State will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 31 to host the 15th annual Bulldog Classic at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
