Papic Clinches 4-3 Win Over LMU

FRESNO, Calif. - For the third time in as many matches, the Fresno State men's team was pushed to the limit, but came away with a 4-3 win over Loyola Marymount as Nikolas Papic claimed a three-straight victory on the final court.
The Bulldogs went up 1-0 after claiming the doubles point after two matches.
The Lions leveled the dual match at 1-1 with a win in the top singles match, but the 'Dogs turned to the tide as Sai Kartik Nakireddi and Youssef Hassan picked up straight-set victories at the fifth and fourth flights, respectively. Loyola Marymount would not go away though as the visitors countered with a win in the No. 3 match, before claiming the No. 2 match.
With its last two dual matches coming down to the third flight, this time it rested on the shoulders of Nikolas Papic at No. 6. With a one-set lead, Papic was forced into a set tiebreak in the second, but he wasn't able to finish off his opponent. Papic rebounded though in the final set, winning 6-3 to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.
It was the fourth 4-3 dual match that Fresno State has played this season, as they have gone 2-2 in such matches.
The Bulldogs will hit the road on Sunday as the team heads to UC Irvine for a 10 a.m., showdown in Irvine, Calif.
