Bulldogs on a Four-Game Win Streak

LOGAN, Utah- The Fresno State softball team took on Utah State on Friday afternoon at LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field where the `Dogs defeated the Aggies 5-2. The Bulldogs move to an overall record of 29-13 and 10-3 in Mountain West play.
"Today we scrapped out a win which is most important thing," head coach Trisha Ford said. "Jill [Compton] battled for us on the mound and Kierra [Willis] was impressive today, that kid has come through for is in big situations. Utah State is playing well and it's important for us to come out tomorrow with a lot of focus and intensity. We threw away a lot of at bats today."
Brenna Moss set the tone for Fresno State drawing a leadoff walk and reaching home on a single to center from Michelle Solomon, who was scored from first base on a standup double from Kierra Willis. With only one out in the top of the first, Fresno State grasped a 2-0 lead over the Aggies.
Throwing the duration of seven innings against Utah State, junior Jill Compton held the Aggies to only two runs and recorded a total of six strikeouts with only two walks on the day.
Utah State tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run after posting only two hits earlier in the game.
Leading the team against Utah State on Friday, Willis put the `Dogs up 4-2 in the seventh inning on a two-run home run to left-center. Bria Kennedy tacked on an additional run for Fresno State in the top of the seventh with a two-out double down the left field line.
In what was her second pinch hitting attempt of the day, Taylor Green drew a walk to load the bases in the seventh for the second time against the Aggies.
Three Bulldogs posted multiple hits against Utah State including Solomon, Willis and Paige Gumz, leading the team to a total of 10 hits.
Previous Action
Earlier this week, Fresno State hosted New Mexico for a two-day series at Margie Wright Diamond. Following a three-game sweep over the Lobos, the `Dogs took to Utah with a second place conference seating.
Looking Ahead
Fresno State will return to LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field to take on Utah State for game-two of the Mountain West series on Saturday at 3 p.m., before ending the nine-game slate in the past 11 days. Following this weekend, the Bulldogs will host Boise State (April 17-19) and Nevada (April 24-26) for back-to-back Mountain West series at Margie Wright Diamond.
