LOGAN, Utah- The Fresno State softball team's four-game win streak was broke with Utah State grasping a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field. After two days of play the Bulldogs move to an overall record of 29-14 and 10-4 in Mountain West play.
"That was a tough loss for us today." Head coach Trisha Ford said. "We hit a lot of balls hard just right at somebody and have to do better with runners in scoring position. We have left double digits on base too many times and it bit us in the butt. Taylor [Langdon] did a great job today coming in and stopping Utah State's bats. Tomorrow is a big game and I look forward to playing."
Going 3-for-4 on Saturday, Bulldog designated player Bria Kennedy posted the lone hit of the game through two innings of play before scoring the `Dogs first run in the fourth inning off a double from Chase LeeHong.
Recording Fresno State's second hit of the game, senior Brenna Moss continues to add to her compiled 21 stolen bases this season, taking second with one out in the third inning.
Hannah Harris drew the Saturday afternoon start in the circle for the `Dogs and kept Utah State off the base path in the first two innings, giving up the first Aggie hit in the bottom of the third.
Following back-to-back home runs, junior Taylor Langdon came in relief with one out in the bottom of the fourth as the `Dogs trailed 3-1. Jill Compton (18-10) made an appearance in the sixth, recording two Aggie strikeouts and giving up a solo home run in her one-inning showing.
A single and double to start the sixth inning placed runners in scoring position with no outs, scoring on a squeeze bunt from Whitney Smith to cut the `Dogs two-run deficit. Moss tied the game in the sixth inning on a one-out single up the middle, heading into the seventh with an even three runs for the Bulldogs and Aggies.
Utah State scored all four runs on three home runs as Fresno State out-hit the Aggies 10-5 and forced a total of two fielding errors on Saturday.
