Fresno State Defeats Nevada 4-1 on Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. -- In his final home match, Sai Kartik Nakireddi produced the match-clinching point for the Fresno State men's tennis team in a 4-1 win over Nevada on Saturday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The team's lone senior went 2-0 on the day, also earning a 6-2 win in doubles.
Although Nakireddi and doubles partner, Nikolas Papic, picked up the first win of doubles play, it wasn't enough. Leading 5-2 in their match at the same time that Nakireddi and Papic were ahead 5-2 in theirs, Euan McIntosh and Youssef Hassan were unable to overcome a furious rally from Andrew Poustie and Fernando Sunago before eventually falling 7-6(6) at No. 1. After a Ryan Andrada and Robert Margitfalvi won 6-3 at No. 2, the result on Court one gave the Wolf Pack the early advantage.
Despite the opening setback, Fresno State rallied in singles play, earning first set wins on each court. Youssef Hassan was the first to finish, powering his way to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Peter O'Donovan, and Euan McIntosh followed with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of Ryan Andrada in the No. 3 spot.
After holding onto a 7-6 opening-set win, Eric Komati finished off Mile Cilic 6-2 in the second set to give the `Dogs a 3-1 advantage. With third-set leads on two courts, Nakireddi headed into tiebreak on Court One against Moez Chargui. The senior was able to come out on top 8-6 on the break to win the match, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(6), giving Fresno State the win.
With the win, the Bulldogs clinched the No. 4 seed in next week's Mountain West Championship and will face fifth-seeded Boise State on April 23. The 'Dogs opening match in Albuquerque, N.M, is schedule to start at 2 p.m., PT, and stream live on the Mountain West Network.
