FRESNO, Calif.- Strikeout Cancer Weekend was continued on Saturday evening as the Fresno State softball team grasped the three-day conference series with a 4-3 victory against Boise State. Senior Michelle Solomon led the team scoring three of the `Dogs four runs with a single, triple and home run on the night.
"I thought we battled hard today and Hannah [Harris] gave us a good four innings, Jill [Compton] did a great job coming in and closing. You look for a senior to step up and Michelle [Solomon] stepped up big for us tonight. She had a huge game going three for three with three RBI's, you can't really ask more from her. Brenna [Moss] also did a great job for us getting on base, we did enough tonight to get a W."
The Broncos were first to score in the top of the first inning, reaching home safely on a bases-loaded pass ball. Fresno State came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning on a triple from Solomon to score Malia Rivers from first base and tallied on another run off a Bronco throwing error, giving the `Dogs a 2-1 advantage.
Posting five hits in the first two innings, Boise State struck again in the second inning to tie the game and took the lead in the fifth after scoring on a two-out single.
Hannah Harris drew the start in the circle for Fresno State and went the duration of 4.2 innings before Jill Compton made her second appearance of the weekend after gaining the Friday night victory. The duo had a combined total of four Bronco strikeouts and Compton allowed only one hit in her 2.1 inning showing.
Solomon put the `Dogs up 4-3 in the fifth with her fifth home run of the season, leaving the senior outfielder 3-for-3 on the night. Bulldog third baseman Alyssa Villalpando added two hits to the team's total of eight against Boise State on Saturday, with Brenna Moss and Rivers both posting one each.
