FRESNO, Calif.- After claiming the three-game series on Saturday night, the Fresno State softball team topped Nevada 12-0 in what was a one-hit, run-rule shutout during the final home game of the year. The Bulldog senior class was honored prior to the annual Senior Day contest at Margie Wright Diamond.
"I'm very proud our team effort," head coach Trisha Ford said. "Jill [Compton] set the standard on the mound and gave us some good energy. Offensively we came out today with great focus and great purpose, it was nice to finish our home slate with this kind of win."
With a one-hit shutout on Friday, 5-3 victory on Saturday and the `Dogs second one-hit shutout on Sunday, the Fresno State softball team advances to an overall record of 36-14 and 17-4 in conference action. Standing only one conference series shy of wrapping up the regular season, the Bulldogs remain atop of the remaining eight team in the Mountain West.
Junior Jill Compton (25-10) claimed all three games against Nevada over the weekend with her second shutout of the series coming on Sunday afternoon. Compton allowed only one hit in the 4.1 innings pitched with seven strikeouts to post an earned run average of 1.89.
As the `Dogs leadoff batter, senior Brenna Moss led the team posting three hits in four at-bats driving in one of Fresno State's 12 runs on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldog's senior right fielder Michelle Solomon contributed offensively with one hit in two at-bats with a team-best two walks and two runs batted in on the day.
Seniors Taylor Green and Kelly Megee made pinch-hitting appearances in the bottom of the fourth inning where Green drew a walk and went on to score the `Dogs 10th run of the game. Red-shirt junior Kiley Shae Aldridge came in to record the final two outs of the game in the circle for the Bulldogs and ended the game on a Wolf Pack strikeout.
"We had all of our seniors have a chance to get up to bat," Ford added. "Taylor had a great walk and Kiley Shae came in to close it out. As a coach it was very neat to be a part of."
Three Bulldogs had a multi-hit game on Sunday including Moss, Malia Rivers and Kierra Willis with Solomon, Alyssa Villalpando and Whitney Smith contributing one hit apiece to cap the game with a combined total of 10 hits. Rivers had a team-best of three runs batted in for the `Dogs.
"My dad has a disease called ALS," Green said. "He has had it for about 10 years now so I wasn't sure that he was going to see this day. It was awesome to share that moment today and winning was icing on the cake. He comes to every single game at home and sometimes on the road and it was awesome for him to be a part of. I have always dreamed of this day and I was excited for it to happen and him to be able to share it with me."
Following Sunday's action, the Fresno State softball Diamond Club hosted the annual senior barbeque where Moss, Solomon, Megee, Aldridge and Green were honored for their hard work and dedication to the Bulldog softball team.

Fresno State will travel to Stockton, Calif., for a single non-conference game with the University of Pacific on Saturday, May 2 before competing in the final regular season series against UNLV at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev.
