Bulldogs Open Play at Cal Winter Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 54 Fresno State women's tennis team opened up the spring season on Friday in Berkeley, Calif., as the Bulldogs earned nine wins on day one of the Cal Nike Winter Invite.
Each of Fresno State's seven singles wins came in the second session as Maiar Sherif Ahmed, Sophie Watts, Rana Sherif Ahmed, Galina Bykova and Sofya Malysheva each earned straight-set victories over opponents from Cal Poly. Emma Wilson and Anneka Watts each picked up wins against singles players from Cal, Wilson's coming against Stephanie Lin in three sets.
In doubles, the Bulldogs went 2-2 with both wins coming from the two sets of sisters. The Ahmed's defeated Jamie Pawid/Jana McCord of Saint Mary's, 6-2, and the Watts' also won the their match 6-2 over the Gaels' team of Kareena Manji/Pari Kaur.
