Bulldogs look to bring magic from home to the road
Fresno State's home unbeaten streak remained intact this past weekend, as the Bulldogs tied San Diego State 1-1 on Friday and defeated New Mexico 3-1 on Sunday, two opponents that have given the 'Dogs trouble over the years. This brought Fresno State's home unbeaten streak to five games, its best such streak since 2013.
'Dogs rank high offensively among MW members
The Bulldogs rank in the top half of every offensive category among MW members.
Junior forward Myra Delgadillo's seven assists this year rank 11th in the nation, just two shy of the NCAA leader. Her 0.58 assists per game lead the MW and have her on track to set the Fresno State single-season record of 10 assists set by Molly Nizzoli in 2010.
Delgadillo has been involved in 13 of Fresno State's 19 scoring plays, giving her a total of 19 points (6 goals, 7 assists) on the season, a career-high.
Berwinkel-Kottmann showed up when called on
Sophomore goalkeeper Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann was called on this past weekend to start her first two games of the season. She is the third goalkeeper to be used this year and did not disappoint with Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week performances.
Over the weekend, Berwinkel-Kottmann racked up 13 saves, a 0.45 goals-against average and earned her fourth career shutout on Sunday. On Friday, she tied her career-high with seven saves, including three in the second half to send the game into overtime and an eventual draw.
Sophomore Nicole Theroux has played in seven games this season, starting five, and earning three victories, including two shutouts. She has 27 saves on the year and a 1.79 GAA.
Redshirt freshman Alex Best has played in six games this season, starting five, and earning two victories, including a shutout. She has 15 saves on the year and a 1.98 GAA.
This is the first time in program history that three different goalkeepers have earned a solo shutout in the same season.
Six game-winning goals, six different players
Fresno State's unpredictability on offense has been key to its success this season. Each of the Bulldogs' six game-winning goals have come from a different player, including a senior, three juniors and two freshmen.
Sixteen different 'Dogs have multiple shots this season and 12 of them have earned at least one point.
A defensive foundation
Through all the rotation between offense and goalkeeping, there has been a solid foundation on the back line for the Bulldogs throughout the season. Juniors Anna Crawford and Alissa Pham, along with sophomore Olivia Muhrbeck, have put in the most minutes for the 'Dogs this year.
About the Aggies (7-5-0, 3-1-0 MW)
Utah State has won four of its last five home games and five of the Aggies' seven wins have been by shutout. Utah State began MW play with three-straight wins over Colorado State (3-1), Wyoming (3-0) and Air Force (1-0 OT), but is coming off a 1-0 loss at Colorado College on Sunday.
Offensively, the Aggies are led by senior Jessica Brooksby (5 goals, 6 assists) and junior Wesley Hamblin (5 goals, 2 assists). Sophomore goalkeeper Grace McGuire has seen most of the time in front of the net, racking up 49 saves and a 1.09 goals-against average.
About the Broncos (4-8-1, 3-1-0 MW)
Following a 1-7-1 non-conference record, Boise State began MW play with three-straight wins over Wyoming (1-0), Colorado State (2-1 OT) and Colorado College (3-0), but is coming off a 2-0 loss at Air Force on Sunday.
Offensively, the Broncos are led by freshman Raimee Sherle (6 goals) and sophomore Eva Herrera (3 goals). Protecting the net for Boise State this season has been split between junior Janelle Flores (22 saves, 1.03 GAA) and sophomore Tara Fisher (24 saves, 1.62 GAA).
