LOGAN, Utah - The Fresno State women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Utah State on Friday afternoon at Chuck and Gloria Bell Field in Logan, Utah. The Bulldogs continue their road trip, traveling to Boise, Idaho on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
Â
Through the first 71 minutes of the match, the 'Dogs (6-6-1, 1-3-1 MW) and Aggies (8-5-0, 4-1-0 MW) held each other scoreless.
Â
In the 72nd minute, a foul was called on Fresno State just outside its box, and Jayn Robison-Merrill of Utah State was able to find the back of the net off the free kick by Jessica Brooksby. Over the next eight minutes of the game, three more Aggies found a way to score and cemented their victory.
"We came in with a game plan that worked well for 70 minutes," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "Then it went to pieces after one goal. We are very disappointed that we just fell apart. Credit to Utah State for making it a difficult place to play and for capitalizing on our mistakes. To lose to a good team like Utah State happens, but to lose the way we did is unacceptable and we all have to take responsibility to not let that happen again."
Â
In the match, Utah State owned advantages in shots (15-6), shots on goal (5-2) and corner kicks (4-3). Six different Bulldogs recorded a shot in the game and both shots on goal came from the bench.
Â
Fresno State sophomore goalkeeper Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann started her third-straight game for the Bulldogs and recorded one save in the match. Redshirt freshman Alex Best replaced Berwinkel-Kottmann after the fourth goal and played the final 10 minutes.
Â
Sunday's game against Boise State (4-8-2, 3-1-1 MW) will air live and for free on the Mountain West Network as the Bulldogs seek their first MW road win of the season. The Broncos tied San Jose State 0-0 on Friday.
